House rules

No two families play quite the same Yatzy. These are the rules that come up most, what they change, and a link to play each one.

The common ones

Five of a kind counts as a full house. Common in Norway; makes the house box a little easier to fill late in the game.

Four of a kind counts as two pairs. Also common: 4-4-4-4 becomes two pairs of fours, worth 16.

A second Yatzy scores again, usually 50 or 100 extra points. The American game does this with a joker rule.

Forced order: boxes from the top down, bonus at 42.

Bonus at 60: a softer bonus line for children or quick games.

Two rolls instead of three: faster and much more random.

Full straight worth 30: some editions pay 30 for the full straight instead of 21, the Alga value this site uses.

Chance removed: no safety valve, every bad turn costs a real box.

Questions

Can I make my own Yatzy rules here?

Yes. The rule builder lets you change dice, rolls, order, bonus, every box and its points, and share the result as a link.
